St. Simons Island, Georgia – January 28, 2015 – University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine student, Geoff Landau, has been selected to receive the prestigious Simmons Educational Fund (SEF) National Business Aptitude Award. The award is given to senior students to bring attention to the importance of business education in veterinary practice. Landau presented a new, modern marketing plan for a veterinary practice. He was selected from among 17 national and international candidates based upon his exceptional response to the case study.

The SEF awarded Landau $15,000 and an all-expense-paid trip to the North American Veterinary Conference in Orlando. The award was presented by Dr. Watson, Simmons Southeast, at the National VBMA meeting.

“I am humbled and honored to have been chosen as the recipient of this year’s SEF Business Aptitude Award. I plan to keep my marketing plan and use it as a base to build on for a clinic in the future,” said Landau. “The Simmons Educational Fund Award is one of a kind because of how much you learn during the award process. It is not as simple as filling in blanks on an application or having a high GPA; the award requires research and individual opinion on real-life skills necessary for a small business to be successful.”

About the SEF Business Aptitude Award:
• The award is offered to a 3rd-year veterinary student at each veterinary school in North America
• Regional winners are chosen for the $3,000 award
• The SEF regional winners then go on to the SEF national competition for a chance to win $15,000
• The award program is promoted by each Simmons & Associates’ region
• Since its inception 13years ago, the SEF has donated over $1 million to the veterinary profession

“We at the SEF continue to be incredibly impressed by the effort, thoughtfulness, and quality of work that all of the entrants display in their projects.” said Dave Gerber, DVM, an SEF trustee. “The finalists were hard to separate due to the excellence of each of their projects. With students of this caliber, our profession will remain in good hands for years to come.”
